Manifestation of Spontaneous Presence

pe-gyal-lingpa-w-hhdr

The manifestation of spontaneous presence of the appearance of the basis is not recognized, this becomes the origin of the descent into the interdependence of samsara. The empty essence of one’s mind is Dharmakaya; the natural radiance is Sambhogakaya; and the all-pervasive quality of compassion is Nirmanakaya. By not recognizing one’s Three Kaya nature that abides as the basis, this nature becomes dormant. By becoming ignorant of the manifestations of the Three Kayas, the root of all passions, the three poisons arise. As these three increase, the skandhas, elements, sense sources, and so on, and all phenomena of the outer universe and inner essence of beings of cyclic existence appear. By the power of practicing on the path, all these appearances transform into the qualities of the path of the Three Kayas. The sign of this is the arising of the experiences of bliss, clarity, and nonconceptuality. These three experiences indicate the reversal of cyclic existence and the ascent to the Three Kayas

Bodichitta

To have the wish first to achieve liberation for oneself and then to benefit all parent sentient beings is the bodhichitta that is like a king. To strive diligently to bring oneself and all parent sentient beings to the state of liberation together, like bringing all the passengers on a ship along with oneself together across the sea, is the bodhichitta that is like a sea captain. To cherish others more than oneself, wishing first to liberate all beings from the suffering of cyclic existence, and then to attain the state of liberation oneself, like a shepherd who protects animals such as cattle and sheep from the fear of wild predators by taking care of the needs of the herd before considering himself, is the unsurpassed bodhichitta that is like a shepherd.

What are the Four Thoughts?

“Precious Human Birth

The eases and obtainments of this precious human rebirth are extremely difficult to find.

Impermanence
Whoever is born possesses the phenomena of impermanence and death.

Karma
The cause and result of virtuous and non virtuous actions cannot be denied.

Suffering
The continuous character of the three realms of samsara is an ocean of suffering. By remembering this, may my mind turn to the holy Dharma.” Thinley Norbu
