Correction Regarding the August 12 Solar Eclipse

Sky Above Pema Osel Ling Aug 11th

Dear Sangha and friends,

With heartfelt apologies, I need to correct our earlier announcement regarding the solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12.

I mistakenly shared that the eclipse would be visible in California and coincide with our 5 PM Khandro Thuk Thik Ngondro teaching with Tulku Thadral Rinpoche. The eclipse will not be visible from California, and its greatest point occurs at approximately 10:46 AM Pacific Time, several hours before our teaching.

I sincerely apologize for the confusion. 🙏🏼

Our aspiration to recite the Kunzang Monlam, the Aspiration Prayer of Kuntuzangpo, on this auspicious day remains.

Thank you for your understanding. 🙏🏼💞

Solar and lunar eclipses are traditionally regarded as especially powerful times for practice, when prayers, aspirations, and virtuous activities are said to have great potency. In connection with this auspicious celestial event, we invite everyone to join in the recitation of the Kunzang Monlam (Samantabhadra’s Aspiration Prayer), dedicating the merit for the benefit and awakening of all beings.

May this aspiration and practice during this solar eclipse bring immeasurable benefit and serve as a cause for all beings to realize the awakened state of Samantabhadra.

This prayer was taken from the Ninth Chapter “The Recitation of the Powerful Prayer in which Sentient Beings Cannot Resist Becoming Buddha,” from the tantric scripture “The Unobstructed Enlightened Mind of the Great Perfection Kuntuzangpo.”

“During solar or lunar eclipses, when clamor or earthquakes happen, at the solstices, or at the turn of the year, if we let ourselves arise as Samantabhadra and recite this prayer within the hearing of all, through our aspirations as yogic practitioners, all sentient beings of the three realms will gradually become free from suffering and then swiftly attain buddhahood.” ~ Dzongsar Khyentse Norbu Rinpoche
