Reflecting on the need to guard the mind, which is the root of the Dharma

The whole of the Dharma depends on the mind, and the mind is dependent on the precious human body. This is an interdependent relationship of support and what is supported: the mind is the root of Dharma, and the freedoms and advantages are the support or accessory for this. For this reason one need train only in taming the mind, as Nagarjuna advises:

The vital point is tame your mind, for mind’s The root of Dharma, so the Buddha said.

And the Great Omniscient One says:

The Dharma depends on the mind, And that depends on the freedoms and advantages, interdependently.

Now that the many causes and conditions have come together, Tame your mind—that’s the main point of Dharma.

The sufferings of fear and poverty that occur throughout this life and will occur in subsequent lives are the negative consequences of using your precious human body to indulge in pointless distractions, while all the happiness and good qualities of higher rebirth and ultimate excellence come solely from not wasting the freedoms and advantages.

As we read in the Sutra of the Arborescent Array:

Child of noble family, it has never occurred to those who wander in cyclic existence that their body ornamented with the freedoms and advantages is so difficult to find; because of their evil friends,f they continue to circle in cyclic existence and are tormented by the fire of suffering. But I, by reflecting on this supreme freedom, have been completely liberated from existence. You too should do likewise.

May 29th marked the start of the Vajrayana Foundation Annual Summer Retreat (May 29th – June 30th) at Pema Osel Ling with Orgyen Khandro Norlha running from May 29th to June 7th.

Due to the national SIP order, to continue the Annual Summer Retreat unbroken for 31 years, the Vajrayana Foundation has worked long hours to prepare for this first online Live Streaming Summer Retreat. As mentioned above, the first segment is Orgeyn Khandro Norlha with the Lung (Oral Transmission) given on the first day and scheduled for the end of the retreat, Daily Teachings by Lama Sonam Rinpoche with his translator, Cy Kassoff, and the practice from the The Secret Sadhana of the Great Master: The Heart Essence of the Lake-Born written by HH Kyabje Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche. We will be doing a practice called Tseyang Khabtruk, a uniquely uplifting combination of long-life and wealth-gathering practices that has never been done before in the west.

“The area on the mountainside near Rangjyung, Dungse Garab Dorje Rinpoche’s gompa, had a water problem for many years. Chu-ter healing water from the spring in Eastern Bhutan began to flow when blessed by Kyabje Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche’s practice. Now this is a place where people come from far away and stay to camp and partake of the healing water. From showering in and drinking this water, they become healed of many illnesses. It is this holy water which we have brought back from Bhutan and infused into the medicinal clay used for rolling the balls which fill each Treasure Vase.” Vajrayana Foundation

Dudjom Tersar Ngondro

Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje

His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche embodied a great power, making it possible for anyone connecting with him ~ be it through seeing, hearing, touching or becoming his student ~ to attain liberation. Dudjom Rinpoche’s activities grew while he traveled and taught spreading dharma throughout the world. By revealing multitudes of mind treasure teachings, compiling and restoring many old termas, and creating volumes of text, he repaired and expanded the Nyingma lineage which had become dangerously thin. His texts included profound sadhanas and teachings, spanning the complete path of vajrayana from beginning to end.

The Dudjom Tersar Lineage includes both Dudjom Lingpa’s and His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche’s cycles of teachings. The Dudjom Tersar Ngondro is the foundation practice for both the Dudjom Tersar Lineage and the entire vajrayana Buddhist path.
